Brand new for 2023, Vaughn Custom Sports is proud to unleash their newest version of their Velocity Line, the Vaughn Velocity V9 XP 70 Degree Pro Carbon Senior Goalie Glove.
The V9 XP is a complete departure from the traditional glove feel Vaughn has been known for. The V9 XP is based off of the VE8 XP and that of the Pro V Elite 2019 models.
The basis of the XP glove is still clearly a Vaughn style build; however this glove is cleverly disguised with a very similar graphic to that of its V9 Pro Carbon counterpart. The graphic sits a top of a 1-piece cuff design which also differs from the V9 glove. A 1-piece cuff has become preferred across most goalies, as the 1-piece cuff helps provide rigidity over the wrist to create a large blocking surface for when the goalie hits a blocker butterfly. The V9 XP Pro Carbon features Vaughn’s Carbon reinforcements throughout the cuff and palm for complete protection.
Next, you will notice a vastly different closure than all other gloves Vaughn has offered. The glove closes in a very natural 70 degree angle. This new degree angle is designed to help catch the attention of goalies who have not traditionally worn Vaughn gloves. Continuing with the visual presentation of the glove, Vaughn has produced a stock glove with their beloved vintage Iceberg graphic. There is a large amount of padding which acts much like a pro palm with a game ready closure.
Moving through to the backhand of the glove, Vaughn has opted to go with a traditionally segmented setup which gives a great fit across the knuckles while still offering plenty of protection. Additionally, the backhand is finished off which a larger finger rail to provide extra protection against any hacks or gaps in the RVH position. Internally there is a Velcro closure across the back of the fingers, another Velcro strap across the back of the knuckles and a large nylon wrist strap which feeds through a padded wrist strap. This strap pulls through the backhand and can be adjusted without removing the glove or opening up any pieces of the backhand. The inside is lined with a suregrip material to provide a tight, non-slip grip for the goaltender throughout usage. Another major difference from the original V9 XP glove is found at the cuff, where the closure is laced in on both sides as opposed to the Velcro closure found on the V9 XP. This allows a more traditional and open look and feel to the cuff.
With much popularity on the VE8, you will see the same hybrid-esque Double T that carried over to the V9. This Double T files into a Single T where it connects to the perimeter. This design helps create visibility into the pocket, matched with a soft style catch without the extra bulk of 2 spines hindering closure.
If you are an elite-level Vaughn Velocity enthusiast that wants a North American build quality, but met with a completely distinct feel and break angle, look no further than the Vaughn Velocity V9 XP 70 Degree Pro Carbon Senior Goalie Glove.
